During the next two years the path from idea to completed film will be traced in four blocks of talks, film screenings, exhibitions and readings focusing on the medium of film. Well-known film professionals working in the areas of screenwriting, directing, cinematography and film architecture will be invited to the kestnergesellschaft. The series kestner film will be a comparative examination of the visual languages of art and film.
How does a screenwriter develop a film scene? There are many sources of inspiration. One innovative opportunity was provided by the Hanover-based director and screenwriter Franziska Stünkel in the opening event of this series. She invited visitors, Internet users and screenwriters to develop a film scene by taking part in the interactive screenplay project »Tell me their story« from 26 August to 14 October 2010.
The starting point for the creative process was Franziska Stünkel’s photograph »all the stories 02«, which could be seen in hall 4 of the kestnergesellschaft, where a walk-in installation was set up with work places for visitors: a computer with Internet access, a typewriter, pens and paper. The visitors were make up to invent a dialogue based on the photograph: a woman, a man, a child – what’s happening, what’s going to happen, what are they saying? The basis for the dialogues was always the same photograph, but a great variety of film scenes came about.
