kestner catalogues

The catalogues of the kestnergesellschaft are a long and popular tradition

We produce a catalogue for every exhibition, a tradition that goes back to the very beginnings of the kestnergesellschaft: the first kestner catalogue appeared in 1916 to accompany an exhibition by Max Liebermann. It was a small booklet with only a few illustrations – as was usual at the time. In 1970 a square format was developed that remained standard – and a kestner trademark – until 1987. It was disbanded because we wanted to do justice to the individuality of each artist and his or her work. The books are now as different as the exhibitions. Each one translates the special features of the artistic work into print.
